The Process

All art begins with a concept. Mine generally originates with a striking and compelling combination of lights and darks in a scene that catch my eye. The subject is not as important to me as the emotion it evokes in me. It is this intangible essence that I strive to capture and share with the viewer whether it be a landscape, portrait, or still life. Planning is an important part of my painting process. Usually I start with thumbnail sketches, value studies and the use of several popular computer programs to explore all creative options before I start to paint. Now the real work begins. Ideas, images, emotions begin to congeal until finally a creative conclusion arrives, it is only then that I pick up a brush and begin to paint. Every painting of mine is meant to tell a story. I hope upon looking at them you will agree.
